Motivational Interviewing is often used for addiction because lack of motivation can be one of the greatest barriers for individuals struggling with addiction, despite serious health issues and financial, social, and legal consequences. Built on the notion that all individuals dealing with addiction are at least somewhat aware of the consequences of their substance abuse, our clinicians facilitate MI in treatment by helping clients overcome ambivalence, or fear of change as they transition through stages of change.

Motivational interviewing has also been effective for those who have been required to seek treatment for legal reasons or family circumstances.
